Handling and Storage
Appropriate Storage of Double Glazed Windows and Doors
After your double glazed windows and double glazed doors are delivered to your home or construction site, it's best to install them as soon as possible to minimize the risk of accidental damage. However, if ongoing renovation or construction work prevents immediate installation, store the double glazed window and door frames and glass separately in an area with limited access to minimize movement.
This is especially crucial for glass, as any broken or damaged insulated glass units (IGUs) must be reordered and paid for by the customer. If timely installation of new or replacement double glazed windows and doors is not possible, we may arrange for the glass to be delivered later than the frames to reduce the risk of breakage.
Store the window and door frames and insulated glass units indoors or undercover in a safe area with no child access. Keep the protective sticker on the double glazed window and door frame to shield the profile from scratches and dirt. Consider covering the frames with rugs to prevent damage, but ensure everyone can identify there is glass underneath. Double Glazed Windows and Doors recommend storing glass on an A-frame with stable racking, regular inspections, proper fastening, and weight not exceeding maximum loading capacity. If this is not possible, store glass and IGUs vertically with supported edges and avoid contact with hard materials, especially for toughened glass. Ensure the storage area is well-lit, with clearly defined passageways to minimize inconvenience to workers on-site.
Store glass and IGUs in a clean, dry environment with sufficient circulation of cool, dry air to prevent staining and marking. Avoid direct sunlight, as some glass is susceptible to thermal breakage. If glass is delivered on a rainy day and becomes wet, dry the panels and restack them with separators to maximize airflow. Lastly, protect your glass and IGUs from site contamination caused by building materials.
Moving Double Glazed Windows and Doors
Remember that all our double glazed window and door frames are reinforced with metal inside and fitted with hardware, significantly affecting their weight. Generally, the larger the double glazed window or door, the heavier it will be. Care must be taken when moving them. Builders or project managers in charge of installation should ensure that the team is trained in the safe handling and unpacking of glass and IGUs. Our energy efficient windows are designed and manufactured in Sydney to ensure the highest quality and durability.
